Meta’s AI is expected to have memory capable of remembering “important details” about users. It’s worth noting that other AIs, like Google’s Gemini and ChatGPT, already do this.
So, for example, if a user mentioned in a previous chat that they are vegan and asks Meta AI for breakfast ideas, the chatbot will always consider this dietary preference in future conversations about the subject.
Meta emphasized that Meta AI will not remember things shared in private chats, and users can delete the AI’s memories at any time.
However, Meta announced that it may take data from users’ social networks to provide personalized recommendations, which caused quite a bit of controversy after Mark Zuckerberg‘s announcement.
This information could include the home location on the user’s Facebook profile or recently watched videos on Instagram. “The Meta AI will start giving responses based on preferences and information you have shared,” Zuckerberg wrote in a post.
“For example, it helped me create creative bedtime stories for my daughters, so if I ask for a new one, it remembers that they love mermaids,” he also explained.
Users in the United States and Canada will already receive personalized recommendations from Meta AI based on their social media activities, but a company spokesperson warned TechCrunch that it will not be possible to “deny” the AI access to your data.
